DENSHIRO
Material : cherry bark
Area : Kakunodate town, Akita Prefecture
Since its founding in the late Edo period, DENSHIRO has been working with the selected cherry bark materials to pass on authentic cherry bark ware, based on the philosophy “ Refining our work will refine people’s trust in us”.
Cherry bark ware is a traditional Japanese craft produced only in Kakunodate, and a tea caddy is made using a technique called "katamono,'' which wraps layers of cherry bark and wood around a cylindrical wooden mold.
As all the parts of a tea caddy are made from one cylinder, thus it has a high airtightness, and will protect tea leaves from moisture.
Cherry bark will grow more lustrous the more you handle them, and that can be used for a long time.
The idea of protecting the production area and passing on the traditions established by our ancestors to the next generation is embodied in the manufacturing process.
