Founded in 1882 by the second-generation Kihachi, who pioneered the tradition of lacquerware craftsmen and merchants, Kihachi Kobo has the longest history among Yamanaka lacquerware producers. Its legacy of craftsmanship has been passed down through generations.
At the heart of Kihachi's philosophy is the commitment to “creating products that can be enjoyed by many.” The workshop takes full advantage of the exceptional qualities of Yamanaka lacquerware—lightweight, easy-to-use wood bases—while working with master artisans, including the talented lacquer artist Yoshiteru Suya, whose design expertise and craftsmanship bring a refined elegance to the functional beauty of everyday lacquerware.
