Yazaemon Kiln
Artist : Yazaemon Kiln
Material : Amakusa Pottery stone
Area : Arita, Saga Prefecture, Japan
Arita ware, Japan’s first porcelain, was born in 1616. Ceramic artist Shingo Oka has dedicated himself to recreating the porcelain of Arita ware as it was around 400 years ago.
The Kaikou (Encounter) series is the result of Oka’s crafted designs, brought to life by Yazaemon Kiln, a long-established Arita kiln. With recipes for clay and glaze passed down to them, skilled artisans at Yazaemon Kiln, under Oka’s supervision, produce each piece.
The pieces feature a smooth, rich glaze, a functional form, and a nostalgic texture reminiscent of old ceramics, gently enhancing the dining experience.
