Shimoo Design, a woodworking duo based in Yao, Toyama, a region blessed with a rich natural environment on the Ura-Nihon (Sea of Japan) side of Japan, creates simple, functional, and beautiful tools that bring Japanese culture and aesthetics into modern living.
Their original 'Fuyou' technique, synonymous with Shimoo Design, combines the traditional Japanese methods of Uzukuri (a wood finishing technique that scrapes away softer wood to highlight the grain) and Negoro-nuri (a lacquerware technique where red lacquer wears away to reveal black layers beneath). Born from a deep admiration for these techniques, Fuyou pieces are handcrafted one at a time, blending seamlessly into daily life while adding a touch of refinement.
