Koji Iki creates pottery that is based on Okinawan tradition while also matching modern lifestyles.
The "Mintama" series is a modern reproduction of the Wakuta ware that was made in Okinawa 400 years ago.
Mintama means eyes in the Okinawan dialect.
At that time, in order to produce more efficiently, the center of the tableware was unglazed and fired in layers.
The mintama series was born from the design of Wakuta ware, which has a dot in the center that looks like an eye.
The contrast between the glazed and unglazed areas is modern and makes the food look even more delicious.
