Wataru Hatano
Area:Ayabe, Kyoto Prefecture
Material :Japanese paper, soil, pigment
From AMART 2022, we are pleased to carry the artworks by Wataru Hatano.
A representative work "stacked things" that expresses
the beauty of things that have accumulated over many years,
made with Japanese paper, soil, and pigments, etc.
The exhibition will also bring together works
depicting "mountain" scenes that were created for this exhibition.
Visited Mr. Hatano's atelier, he talked about his thoughts on washi enthusiastically.
It was his hope that many people would use washi
to reaffirm the excellence of washi,
the consumption of which had drastically decreased.
To this end, he has been working energetically to create not only craft-like washi accessories,
but also art works and to propose ways to use washi in interior spaces.
Washi paper was used to cover the atelier, the floor, walls, dining table,
and even the rainwater drainage pipes in Mr. Hatano's home!
It was an event that made me want to learn about washi again,
precisely because the comfort of soft light through shoji screens,
which I had taken for granted, is no longer the norm.
Please enjoy the comfort atmosphere of the space with Washi.
