RISO Porcelain
Artist : Shinji Terauchi
Material : Amakusa pottery stone/Izumiyama pottery stone
Area : Arita, Saga Prefecture, Japan
The kiln was established in 1930 on the site of Yi Sam-pyeong's former residence, the founder of Arita ware. With a vision of the future, the kiln continues to create beautiful, timeless designs that resonate with users and are unaffected by passing trends.
Shinji Terauchi, the fourth-generation ceramicist of this kiln, combines his exceptional skill and unique sensibility to produce functional yet modern designs, including silver-glazed, rust-brushed, and white porcelain pieces. In recent years, he has worked with Izumiyama porcelain stone, the original material used in Arita ware, creating pieces that exude the refined elegance of the past.
Terauchi remains committed to revisiting the origins of Arita ware, weaving together the natural charm of the materials with his avant-garde approach, resulting in creations filled with sincere craftsmanship.
