KYO AMAHARE is delighted to present our first exhibition featuring glass artist Sei Nishimura.

Titled Awai—a name chosen by the artist—this exhibition reflects Nishimura’s deeply held values: connections between people, harmony with space, and a thoughtful engagement with glass. These sentiments are woven into the message behind this collection.

We invite you to experience the delicate world of Awai, brought to life through the collaboration between Sei Nishimura and KYO AMAHARE.

Materials and I. Light and space. Glass and air. Water and vessel. Interior and exterior.

My works come to life through the interplay of these elements, existing side by side, influencing one another.

Blown glass is the art of shaping enclosed air.
In a sense, glass makes the form of air visible.

To observe form is to perceive the boundary between air and material.
Light plays a role in this process, as do our eyes and hands, intuitively capturing these interactions
—engaging in a dialogue with the material, shaping it through repeated exchange.

At KYO AMAHARE, the artworks exist within a historic building, where the changing scenery unfolds as one moves through the space.
It is a place where art, people, and environment interact, offering a dynamic experience of appreciation.

No element exists in isolation—true meaning arises through connection.
The emotions stirred, the fleeting yet profound moments of resonance, are often imperceptible yet deeply felt.
These subtle, in-between spaces are where something truly moves the heart.

It is with this sentiment that we have chosen our title.

Tea gathering "Awai"

In conjunction with the upcoming exhibition of Sei Nishimura, opening on Friday, April 25, KYO TEAHOUSE will host a special tea gathering, “Awai”.

The space and tea utensils will be arranged with Nishimura’s works, creating a setting that embodies his artistic vision. On this occasion, Nishimura himself will join the gathering, offering a rare opportunity to hear his thoughts on the exhibition.

We warmly invite you to share this moment with us.
