at KYO AMAHARE
「Local Clay」
To the east lies the vast expanse of the Pacific Ocean, and to the west, the East China Sea, carrying the breath of the Asian continent.
Okinawa is a chain of islands resting at the boundary where these two great seas, each with its own distinct character, meet and mingle.
During the era of the Ryukyu Kingdom, Okinawa flourished as a maritime kingdom, connecting cultures across the region while nurturing a unique culture of its own.
Working closely with the clay of Okinawa, shaped by this extraordinary environment,
three ceramic artists—Koji Iki, Noritaka Yamamoto, and Maiko Fujita—bring their distinctive expressions of "Local Clay" together on the second floor of KYO AMAHARE.
We invite you to experience the harmonious space created as the contemporary expressions of Okinawa by these three artists come together within a 130-year-old traditional Kyoto machiya townhouse.
