Marina Yonetsu × AMART at KYO AMAHARE
"Liminal"

In this season where the crisp winter air mingles with the first signs of spring, KYO AMAHARE is pleased to present an exhibition by Marina Yonetsu, an artist known for her glass sculptural works, on the second floor.
The theme is "Liminal — Shikii (Threshold)."
Beast and God.
Life and Death.
Time and Space.
A "threshold" where the awe of all creation and the sanctity dwelling within it intersect.
A "threshold" existing within the fluctuations of human senses.
The ambiguous "threshold" where Marina Yonetsu’s works and the 130-year-old Kyo-Machiya blend together.
We invite you to experience the space where these elements emerge.
On the first day, we will hold a tea gathering titled "Shikii," with the artist herself in attendance.
We look forward to welcoming you to both the exhibition and the tea gathering.

Beast and God
Marina Yonetsu's sculptural works emerge by crushing what she has created with her own hands and layering the fragments one by one.
Through the voids in these newly born forms, one can almost see the ephemeral process of natural objects decaying.
Viewers are inevitably drawn into her unique worldview, where a modern, realistic presence coexists with wabi-sabi.
Symbolizing this exhibition is the "Silver Fox" (Gin-gitsune).
As a counterpart to this piece, we will exhibit a wooden carved "Fox" by Norihisa Mizuta.
The fox as a beast, and the fox as a deity.
We hope you can visceral sense the "threshold" born between them.
Oniyuzu (Demon Citron)
Marina Yonetsu's signature series.
The fleshy texture of the cross-section is rendered with heightened realism, traversing the boundary between truth and fiction.
Kinchaku (Drawstring Pouch)
Realistic, resembling a Nihonga painting.
A quiet, beautiful piece that stands as if it has been there since long ago.
Mimitsuki-tsubo (Eared Jar)
A form reminiscent of Western still life paintings.
The "decayed scenery" reflected in the mirrored surface leaves a lasting impression.
Amagaeru (Rain Frog)
An adorable figure quietly hiding in the garden of KYO.
Will the rain lift tomorrow?
Hyotan (Gourd)
A new work, "Hyotan," created with the space of KYO in mind.
Born from inspiration received from the ancient capital, this piece makes us feel the expansion of her new expressions.
The "threshold" created by the works standing here and there throughout KYO.
We hope this becomes a place where the works, the space, and all of you intersect.
Together with Marina Yonetsu's works, we sincerely look forward to your visit.
