"When the water drains from a rice paddy and the soil dries out completely, it cracks—irregular fissures of all shapes and sizes appear. That striking scene left an unforgettable impression."

This memory is at the heart of ceramic artist Gaku Nakane’s signature technique, hibigesho (crackle glaze), which draws direct inspiration from nature. Depending on the type of clay used, the pattern and depth of the cracks vary dramatically.

As Nakane-san describes, he wanted to evoke the presence of natural stone—voluminous and grounded. The rugged surface, reminiscent of weathered rock, conveys a quiet sense of gravity and depth.

Savor it with the beauty of seasonal blooms.

Please note:
– As each piece is handmade, variations in size, shape, and color may occur. Items may differ slightly from the photos.
– As the entire surface is treated with a water-repellent finish, no additional sealing is necessary.
