Sakai has expressed, "Since many of my works, starting with Oribe ware, tend to feature darker colors, I have a longing for white." For this reason, he aims to fire his kohiki pieces with as much whiteness as possible.
To achieve a pure white finish, he takes meticulous care to fire the pieces at the back of the kiln, where they are less exposed to smoke. Additionally, he ensures the kiln environment remains clean throughout the firing process, avoiding any chance of the pieces being stained by soot. This delicate adjustment results in the beautifully pristine white that defines his kohiki works.
Charmingly designed which makes you want to brew a cup of tea right away.
