Created by Murakami-san as an homage to Fuyōde—a style of porcelain produced in Jingdezhen around 400 years ago, primarily for export to Europe—this piece interlaces both relief (yangke) and intaglio (yinke) carving, reinterpreted through his own sensibility.

Within this series, you will find works that draw from historical originals, pieces inspired by the spirit of Renaissance Europe, and others that take motifs from Japanese hanafuda playing cards. Each vessel offers a distinct expression, allowing you to appreciate a variety of moods and narratives.

This piece is characterized by its dynamic, unique appearance, created during firing, a process known as yohen. The marks left on the base, known as tsumeyaki, are made by small clay bits added during firing to prevent the piece from sticking to the kiln shelf. Its weathered, antique-like wabi-sabi aesthetic evokes a sense of nostalgia.

  • Each piece is handmade, so there may be slight variations in color, shape, and size from the photos. We hope you enjoy these differences as part of the unique character of each item.
