The dango-zara is a traditional sweets plate used in tea gatherings during Kyoto’s Miyako Odori and the Gion Festival.
Reimagined through Murakami-san’s design, this piece features a handwritten inscription on the reverse—“Please enjoy this before tea”—added by the artist himself.
It may be used not only as a sweets plate but also as an individual serving dish.
This piece is characterized by its dynamic, unique appearance, created during firing, a process known as yohen. The marks left on the base, known as tsumeyaki, are made by small clay bits added during firing to prevent the piece from sticking to the kiln shelf. Its weathered, antique-like wabi-sabi aesthetic evokes a sense of nostalgia.
- Each piece is handmade, so there may be slight variations in color, shape, and size from the photos. We hope you enjoy these differences as part of the unique character of each item.
