●24-MS 3 Michikazu Sakai - Manganese Glaze Small Plate
Number: B04903
Artist: Michikazu Sakai / Kita, Kagawa Prefecture
Material: Pottery Clay
Size: Approx. W140 × H25mm
This piece features manganese glaze as a new experiment by Sakai. Through a reduction firing process that expels oxygen, the manganese glaze transforms into a golden hue. Unusually for Sakai's works, a gas kiln is used for this series.
Firing manganese glaze requires delicate precision; even a slight misstep in timing during the smoking process can lead to results far from the intended outcome. The resulting pieces exhibit a metallic sheen reminiscent of aged metal, with hints of black, showcasing Sakai's exceptional sense of balance.
This small plate is ideal for serving small portions, such as lightly dressed salads or side dishes.
