This piece carries a hue that lies somewhere between transparent and milky glaze—like earth touched by a light frost. One can almost picture the trees, bare of leaves and fruit, as the air turns cold and dry. Perhaps this image comes to mind because I was told that when coloring the crackles, the artist used acorn caps gathered in Otaru.
The plate’s versatile size makes it ideal for serving a main dish, a small salad, side dishes, or even dessert.
