In the naturally rich land of Karatsu, Saga, ceramic artist Yukiko Tsuchiya of Yukiko Kiln continues her practice.

Her signature "Kuro-Karatsu" (Black Karatsu) ware possesses a deep, profound charm, revealing various expressions depending on the angle and light each time it is held. The rich, nuanced textures that emerge within the deep black embody both a quiet presence and a rustic strength.
With its generous depth and substantial size, this katakuchi (spouted bowl) goes beyond its traditional role as a sake pitcher to become a versatile star on the daily dining table.

It serves beautifully as a serving bowl for comforting stews or fresh, vibrant salads, works wonderfully as a noodle bowl, or can be used for holding sauces.
This piece is full of welcoming warmth, ready to inspire a wide variety of presentation ideas depending on how you choose to use it.

*As each piece is entirely handmade, variations in size, shape, glaze application, and color may occur and may differ from the photographs shown.

*We recommend preparing the vessel before use:
soak it in warm water for hot dishes or in cold water for chilled dishes.

*The glaze is sensitive to acidic ingredients such as vinegar;
during the initial period of use, avoid prolonged contact with such foods.

*At first, you may notice a pale, powdery surface;
with repeated use and absorption of water,
it will gradually deepen into a rich, lustrous black.
