In the naturally rich land of Karatsu, Saga, ceramic artist Yukiko Tsuchiya of Yukiko Kiln continues her practice.

"Akane Karatsu" is a series inspired by the breathtaking sunsets that spread across the sea near Yukiko-san's home in Karatsu.
Through dedicated research and experimentation, she developed her own original glaze, creating soft, warm hues tinged with shades of crimson and a rich depth of expression.
The resulting pieces seem to capture the fleeting colors of the sky that appear only for a brief moment just before sunset—beautiful, delicate, and ephemeral.
The nuanced glaze reveals different landscapes each time it is viewed, reflecting Yukiko-san's deep appreciation for the beauty of the natural world.

On the underside of the vessel, gently overlapping circles are painted as a symbol of connection and good fortune, carrying a wish for meaningful relationships.

Perfect for moments when people gather around the table to share a meal, this versatile piece features a generously sized surface and a gently raised rim. Ideal for serving appetizers, pasta, and dishes with sauces or broth, it is also well suited for shared plates for two to four people. From everyday dining to special occasions, it brings warmth and elegance to the table.

*We recommend preparing the vessel before use:
soak it in warm water for hot dishes or in cold water for chilled dishes.

*The glaze is sensitive to acidic ingredients such as vinegar;
during the initial period of use, avoid prolonged contact with such foods.

*At first, you may notice a pale, powdery surface;
with repeated use and absorption of water,
it will gradually deepen into a rich, lustrous black.
