Shiro Shimizu maintains his kiln at the foot of Mount Horai, near the shores of Lake Biwa.
Guided by his motto of digging his own clay rather than purchasing it, his work ranges from traditional tea tools to contemporary sculptural objects.
Each piece possesses a raw, compelling expression that feels as though it were dictated by the earth itself.

This tea bowl (chawan) feels as if the primal vitality of excavated earth has been gathered directly into the palms of your hands.
Its coarse, textured surface reveals a complex landscape: ishihaze (stone bursts), scorched markings born within the kiln, and the intricate layering of fused ash — all culminating in a profound and sophisticated aesthetic.
