In the naturally rich land of Karatsu, Saga, ceramic artist Yukiko Tsuchiya of Yukiko Kiln continues her practice.
One of her signature works, “Kuro Karatsu,” possesses a remarkable depth that reveals different expressions each time it is viewed. Shifting with the light and the angle from which it is seen, its rich, dark surface evokes an ever-changing landscape, balancing quiet presence with a sense of strength.
This handled katakuchi features a boldly curved, graceful handle that immediately draws the eye, lending the piece a refined silhouette with a subtle modern character.
Whether used for serving sake, dressings, or sauces, it brings both beauty and functionality to the table while adding a dignified elegance to its surroundings.
*As each piece is entirely handmade, variations in size, shape, glaze application, and color may occur and may differ from the photographs shown.
*We recommend preparing the vessel before use:
soak it in warm water for hot dishes or in cold water for chilled dishes.
*The glaze is sensitive to acidic ingredients such as vinegar;
during the initial period of use, avoid prolonged contact with such foods.
*At first, you may notice a pale, powdery surface;
with repeated use and absorption of water,
it will gradually deepen into a rich, lustrous black.
