Wataru Hatano Stacked things Black (Large) 40108753
Area：Ayabe, Kyoto Prefecture
Material：Japanese paper, soil, pigment
Dimensions : approx. W1610 × D1300 × H25 mm
After training as a paper-maker in Ayabe, Kyoto, where Kurotani washi is produced, Wataru Hatano began creating works using washi as his main material.
He has been working energetically to create not only craft-like washi accessories, but also art works and to propose ways to use washi in interior spaces in order to encourage people to know the excellence of washi.
A representative work "stacked things" series. The paper is mainly handmade by the artist himself, and layers of natural materials such as soil, sand, and pigments are layered on top of each other.
The unevenness created by the layered materials in this work shows various expressions depending on the light.
