To Give From to What Cannot Be Spoken

For this work, I began by foraging wild chaga from the mountains near my home—an act of connection both spiritual and physical. I simmered it for over five hours in natural spring water drawn from a well on my land, creating a black medicinal brew that I also drink to attune my body to the forest.
Though the brew is jet black, the washi absorbs only its essence—emerging in a soft, sepia tone that holds the feeling of age and memory. Dried in the warmth of the sun, each sheet becomes a quiet vessel for what follows.

Onto this surface, I print a photographic image: a moment I once saw and felt. But the camera can only capture part of the truth. Through chalk and charcoal, I return to the piece by hand—layering the subtle textures, colors, and sensations remembered by the body, not just the eye.

In this way, the work becomes not a record, but a recollection—an attempt to give form to a world beyond words.
