After training in traditional papermaking in Ayabe, Kyoto—the birthplace of Kurotani washi—
Wataru Hatano began creating works using handmade washi as his primary medium.
Driven by a desire to share the beauty of washi with a wider audience,
he produces both art and craft,
while also exploring its applications in interior spaces.
One series Hatano-san positions as “art in harmony with space” is A view from the window.
Among the pieces in this series, Moving Outward—unveiled for the first time on this occasion—embodies a quiet yet powerful message: “In these stifling times, let us turn outward.”
