Mizuta-san’s works possess a profound sense of the cycle between life and death.
Through his daily life surrounded by the reclaimed materials he has gathered, the forms of creatures, wings, and bones gradually begin to emerge within his mind from each individual piece.
This work is a precious piece among Mizuta-san's creations, carved from a single block of wood without any joinery.
Of particular note are the lifelike wrinkles reminiscent of a salamander’s skin. These were not intentionally carved; they are said to be the original form the driftwood possessed from the beginning.
An extraordinary aesthetic eye that discovers yet-unseen life within decaying wood, and an almost eternal dialogue with the material.
As the memories of time held within the wood meld with the artist’s soul, a quiet vitality comes to dwell within.
The works are available to view at KYO AMAHARE.
*Since natural wood is used, please refrain from installing it in a place that is extremely dry.
Also, if it is installed in a place exposed to direct sunlight, it may discolor.
*Please note that the bark of the tree may come off over time.
