Hanako Nakazato × AMAHARE
"monochrome"

At Shirokanedai AMAHARE, we are delighted to present Hanako Nakazato's exhibition for the first time in five years.

The theme of this exhibition is "monochrome."

Hanako-san is known for her modern shapes and vibrant use of colors,
but this exhibition features a lineup of chic and cool works centered on white, beige, brown, gray, and black.

Yet, true to her nature,
we are drawn to this "monochrome"—a style uniquely monohanako that seamlessly blends freedom with a spirit of generous warmth.

Please look forward to "monochrome," a singular spectrum of expressions that only Hanako-san can create.

Marble and Fragrance

From late summer into mid-autumn, Hanako Nakazato traveled across Japan.

The works delivered for the exhibition immediately upon her return were steeped entirely in the colors of autumn.

Particularly striking is this incense container (kogo) with its endearing, chestnut-like form.

The marbled pattern paired with a gentle fragrance creates a comfortable, autumnal moment.

Gray and Crackle Glaze

The elusive color of this vessel—
is it gray, or is it white?

The naturally formed crackle glaze (kannyu) lends it a deeply quiet, wabi-sabi atmosphere.

Black and Navy

The subtle contrast between black and navy viewed in soft light reveals Hanako-san's extraordinary aesthetic sensibility.
Along with rice and soup bowls, long rectangular plates are essential vessels for the Japanese dining table.

When autumn arrives, a whole grilled fish served alongside steamed white rice is a true feast.

White and Soroban

This flower vase is named "Soroban" (Abacus).

In the past, we have had the pleasure of selecting it as a decorative art piece for a hotel installation.

Combining Hanako-san's deep appreciation for Japanese culture with a global sensibility, this vase is a personal favorite of mine.

The piece in the photo is the double version, but it is also available as a single.

"Soroban Double, Soroban Single"

Even the naming expression is delightfully unique!

monohanako and monochrome

Liqueur glasses, much like traditional sake cups (ochoko), are vessels that can only be truly crafted by those who love drink (or so I believe).

Every item in Hanako-san's sake collection is filled with thoughtful details that sake enthusiasts find irresistible.

An edgy silhouette expressed using "Mentori" (faceted carving), a traditional ceramic technique.
Within it, an organic marbled pattern.
And a delicate, thin rim against the lips.

Savoring sake slowly while admiring the vessel is a luxurious way to spend time.

We hope you will enjoy quiet, peaceful autumn evenings accompanied by these monochrome creations from monohanako.

We sincerely look forward to welcoming you.
