At this time of year, the shimmering heat haze brings a lingering sense of summer. KYO AMAHARE is pleased to host the first exhibition of metalwork artist Ren Nakane on the second floor (Ninokai).
The defining pieces of this exhibition are brass andon (traditional paper-framed lamps) and aluminum chairs. The former brings a comforting flicker to the space, while the latter grants us a moment of tranquility.
Please look forward to Nakane's new expressions that transcend the boundaries of traditional metalwork.

Tea Gathering "Kagerou"
In conjunction with Ren Nakane's exhibition starting on Friday, August 28, Sabo Kyo will host a special tea gathering titled "Kagerou".
Since our opening, Sabo Kyo has used Nakane's kettles as water pitchers, and we have been continually captivated by how beautifully they blend into the space as the days and months go by.
On the day of the event, likening the flicker of the andon lamps to a summer heat haze, we look forward to sharing a special time with all of you and Mr. Nakane to cherish the last traces of summer.

In the Light
The Japanese sensibility has long been nurtured by appreciating shadows under subtle natural light and candlelight.
This andon lamp was created by applying washi (Japanese paper) to a beautifully contoured brass frame designed by Ren Nakane. Spending time in its soft glow reminds us that true comfort and convenience are not necessarily synonymous.
Painting and Chair
Nakane's chair stands beautifully in a space adorned with art.
It offers a comfortable moment to relax while admiring a painting.
The Kettles of Sabo Kyo
The kettle on the left is the one currently used at Sabo Kyo. The one on the right is among those that will be displayed at the KYO exhibition.
Looking at them, both are deeply captivating—from the amber patina of the copper aged over two years to the shadows cast by the hammer marks born during the creation process.
For this exhibition, Mr. Nakane has specially prepared a lineup of kettles that you can choose and take home on the spot. We hope you will have a wonderful encounter with a piece you love.
The Engawa and the Chair
The engawa (traditional Japanese veranda) has become a luxurious space in modern Japanese homes.
Sitting in this chair, in a space that gently bridges the inside and the outside, one cannot help but ponder: "Perhaps a boundary separating us from nature was never truly necessary in the Japanese way of life."
We are incredibly excited to see what kind of atmosphere will emerge when a 130-year-old Kyo-machiya (Kyoto townhouse) intersects with Nakane's artworks.
