After training as a paper-maker in Ayabe, Kyoto, where Kurotani washi is produced, Wataru Hatano began creating works using washi as his main material.
He has been working energetically to create not only craft-like washi accessories, but also art works and to propose ways to use washi in interior spaces in order to encourage people to know the excellence of washi.

This is the work that represents mountains. Using Japanese paper as the main material, Hatano combined natural materials such as soil and pigments to depict a scene of the "mountain" within himself.
