Shiro Shimizu maintains his kiln at the foot of Mount Horai, near the shores of Lake Biwa.
Guided by his motto of digging his own clay rather than purchasing it, his work ranges from traditional tea tools to contemporary sculptural objects.
Each piece possesses a raw, compelling expression that feels as though it were dictated by the earth itself.

This fresh water jar (mizusashi) is a piece where the wild character of personally excavated raw clay converges with the accidental "landscapes" created by fire.
Its generous, unpretentious form breathes with Shiro’s unique aesthetic — one that aligns itself with the will of the material.
The ishihaze (stone bursts) inherent in the unrefined earth and the complex color shifts born from firing unite to give the piece a primal aura, as if a cross-section of the earth’s strata has been captured in its rawest form.

Due to the handcrafted nature of these pieces, there may be individual variations in size, shape, glaze application, and color.
