The sekimori-ishi (boundary stone) is traditionally used in Japanese tea gardens to convey the host’s gentle request: “Please refrain from going beyond this point.” This stone embodies the subtle way in which Japanese culture communicates feelings and respect through objects. In Ikeda’s work, the piece also serves as a kekkai—a boundary between the pure and the impure.

With its nuanced color gradations and textured, crinkled glaze, this piece reflects the breath of nature. Ikeda has infused it with a sense of joy in being Japanese, capturing the quiet elegance of conveying thoughts without words.

  • Each piece is handmade, so there may be slight variations in color, shape, and size from the photos. We hope you enjoy these differences as part of the unique character of each item.
  • Please note that gold and silver glazes will naturally change color over time, developing a rich patina with daily use and exposure to water.
  • To avoid damaging the glaze, refrain from scrubbing with abrasive materials like brushes or scourers.
  • For further details, please refer to the enclosed care instructions.

This piece is also sold in our physical store. We will check stock availability after you place your order, and in case of a stock shortage, we will notify you via email. Thank you for your understanding.
