●24-TS 56 Tomoko Sakai - Hakeme Brushstroke Vase A
Number: G03031
Artist: Tomoko Sakai / Kita, Kagawa Prefecture
Material: Pottery Clay
Size: Approx. Φ400 × H325 mm / Rim Diameter Φ184mm
The beautiful gradations of white and red in Tomoko Sakai's brushstroke (or Hakeme) technique are truly captivating. Instead of applying the slip (decorative clay coating) in the usual way—by pouring it generously—she deliberately uses a brush to lightly dab it on. This creates variations in the thickness of the slip, which, when fired, results in areas where the base red clay emerges more strongly and areas where the white slip is more pronounced.
This delicate process creates a stunning gradient effect that evokes the grandeur of nature.
Enjoy this work alongside seasonal flowers, adding a touch of nature's beauty to your space.
