Wataru Hatano began his journey into the world of paper-making with an apprenticeship in Ayabe, Kyoto, the home of traditional Kurotani Wataru paper. He then started creating works primarily using Washi (Japanese paper) as his medium.
Driven by a desire to share the charm of Washi with a wider audience, he produces both art and crafts, while also offering modern ways to integrate Washi into interior spaces.
By hanging one of Hatano’s calligraphy works, expressed with a sense of freedom and openness, a comfortable and refined atmosphere is brought to the Tokonoma (alcove) or any living space.
We invite you to enjoy a dialogue with his words, expressed pictorially in a minimalist world of black and white.
