Based in Hokkaido, Shouya Grigg creates photographic art that captures the essence of the landscapes surrounding Niseko.

Immersing himself in the natural world—among seas, lakes, canyons, and snowscapes—he waits for the precise moment when his heart feels a deep "connection" with nature to release the shutter. Each piece is a one-of-a-kind work, printed on washi (Japanese paper) and hand-retouched by the artist with delicate applications of chalk. Expressed entirely in gradations of black and white, his work possesses a stillness and depth reminiscent of traditional suibokuga (ink wash painting).

The piece featured in this exhibition was captured at Mount Huangshan, one of China’s most celebrated and iconic peaks.
