KYO AMAHARE

Shimoo Design × Yuichi Takemata × KYO AMAHARE "Kobi, Shinbi" (Old Beauty, New Beauty)

We are pleased to host a three-person exhibition at KYO AMAHARE, featuring woodworkers Kazuhiko and Saori Shimoo of Shimoo Design, and metalworker Yuichi Takemata.

"Discovering new beauty while paying homage to what time has created."

We are filled with anticipation for the pleasant moments that will be born as these works, sharing the exact same values, intersect with our 130-year-old Kyomachiya (traditional Kyoto townhouse).

On the first day of the exhibition, we will also host a special tea ceremony, "Kobi, Anbi" (Old Beauty, Dark Beauty), with the three artists in attendance.
We sincerely look forward to welcoming you to both the exhibition and the tea ceremony.

Fuyou and Kobishoku

Shimoo Design's "Fuyou", born from an admiration for the expressions of weathered wood.
Yuichi Takemata's "Kobishoku" (Antique Finish), which cherishes the aging of metal and expresses the layering of time.

We have been very much looking forward to the day we could host an exhibition at KYO AMAHARE where the sensibilities of these two artists overlap.

It seems they are also preparing a collaborative piece for the exhibition.

Kuyuru (Wafting)

Sensuous fragrant smoke rising from sensuous lines.

Kusakizome (Botanical Dyeing)

Shimoo Design's new work, "Kusakizome."

Ten years after the birth of Fuyou, this new expression has been added at just the right moment.
It will finally be unveiled at this exhibition.

Kusakizome – Shimoo Design –

Transcending conventional ink-wash painting expressions to bring out the scenery sleeping within the wood.

The wood grain is not a canvas, but an already completed "painting."
Colors are layered onto it as if drawing.

A one-of-a-kind Fuyou born precisely because no time or effort is spared.

Yuragi (Fluctuation)

A pleasing, subtle fluctuation within highly precise craftsmanship.

One can feel that Mr. Takemata's aesthetics are captured even within this fluctuation.

Ame no Hako (Rain Box)

Amahare's tea box, "Ame no Hako," supervised by Mr. Takemata.

Several of these will be unveiled at this exhibition.
The boxes are crafted by Shimoo Design.

The contents of the box are a surprise.

Please look forward to this exhibition where the works of Shimoo Design and Yuichi Takemata come together.

We sincerely look forward to your visit.
